Issue Position

Religion -- I believe in the freedom of religion, not the freedom from religion. Secular humanism has become the religion of our government, and it has been found lacking. It is the source of much of the cultural decay that is crippling our society and bankrupting our governments. An acknowledgement of God is the source of true wisdom and must have a place in our government, schools and agencies.

In fact, our founders understood that democracy would not and could not stand if our leaders did not have a fundamental belief in God. At the same time, they were (and we should be) careful not to force beliefs on anyone.

Pro-Life -- I believe that it is the government's right, proper role, and moral obligation to protect those who cannot protect themselves. I believe that unborn children are the most vulnerable in society, and we must protect them from the tragedy of abortion. This can and should include adoption alternatives.

Pro-Family -- Ultimately the government cannot fix the family. However, many of its policies and programs encourage the disintegration of the core building block of society. The vast majority of our social problems and associated economic costs are the result of broken families. We must make sure that our policies encourage families to stay together.

Tenth Amendment -- "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.*" One of the biggest issues in our state and country is the unprecedented intrusion of the federal government in the affairs of individuals and the state. I will work diligently on efforts to limit the role of the federal government to its constitutional mandates.

Second Amendment -- "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.*" The right to bear arms is a clear and necessary part of our constitution that must be protected. Texas, because of its size and conservative values, is the state that must lead the effort to protect this right. This is a right that I personally enjoy when I go hunting with my boys, but also a right that we are all entitled to as a means to protect the safety of ourselves and those we love.
