Letter to the Honorable Jeff Sessions, United States Attorney General - Recuse Yourself From Potential Investigation into Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross

U.S. Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY) sent a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions urging him to recuse himself from any investigation related to Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross lying to Congress.

On October 12, Meng asked Sessions to investigate Ross after she learned that the secretary lied to her during a recent Appropriations Subcommittee hearing. During that hearing, the secretary failed to tell the truth about communications with the White House regarding his decision to add a citizenship question to the upcoming 2020 Census.

"The Secretary must be held accountable for his actions and that is why I called on Attorney General Sessions to investigate," said Meng. "But statements the Attorney General made last week exposed his bias on the issue and as a result he cannot independently investigate the matter. Therefore, the Attorney General must step aside from any probe that moves forward against Secretary Ross."
