Rosen Statement on Trump's Reckless Plan to Use Executive Order to End Birthright Citizenship

Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) released the following statement in response to President Trump's plan to use an executive order to end citizenship rights.

"Birthright citizenship is a constitutional right, and President Trump does not have the power to unilaterally defy our Constitution to take away citizenship from people who are born in this country. Instead of working to unite us, President Trump continues to undermine our American values as a nation of immigrants and attack immigrant families using fear and bigotry to divide us for his own political gain. We reject these partisan attacks on immigrant communities, and we will fight the President's irresponsible plan to try to end birthright citizenship."

"La ciudadanía por nacimiento es un derecho constitucional, y el presidente Trump no tiene el poder de desafiar unilateralmente nuestra Constitución para quitarle la ciudadanía a las personas nacidas en este país. En lugar de trabajar para unirnos, el presidente Trump continúa socavando nuestros valores estadounidenses como una nación de inmigrantes y atacando a las familias inmigrantes utilizando el miedo y el fanatismo para dividirnos para su propio beneficio político. Yo rechazo estos ataques partidistas en contra de las comunidades inmigrantes, y luchare en contra del plan irresponsable del presidente para tratar de acabar con la ciudadanía por nacimiento."
