U.S. Representative Ted Budd (R-NC) released the following statement after introducing the School SAFETY Results Act:

"We can all agree that one innocent life lost at school is too many. Parents should never send their children to school in fear that they might not return. School safety is one of my top priorities, which is why I have introduced the School SAFETY Results Act. This bill would allow retired law enforcement officers to volunteer at their local schools as additional School Resource Officers or "SROs". In return, the state or local police officer would have the opportunity to get a little tax relief on their pension if they volunteered a certain number of hours each month.

"In my talks with local school officials, there is one recurring theme, and it's that they don't have the necessary tools at their disposal to hire more SRO's to protect their students and faculty in case of a security breach or shooting. Having trained professionals on site would deter any would be assailant from carrying out their evil acts. Our children are the future of America, this bill gives parents and communities the assurance that the future is safe."
