Ron DeSantis Statement on Broward School Administrative Pay Raises

Statement

Date: Sept. 28, 2018

Please see the below statement from Ron DeSantis on Broward County School System's recent pay raises for administrative bureaucrats. A link to an article from the Sun-Sentinel covering it can be found HERE.

"The fact that the Broward County School System gave raises to county bureaucrats following the horrific school shooting at Parkland last year is disgraceful. The shooting and tragic loss of innocent life was a failure at multiple levels of government, not the least of which being the Broward County School System. It is outrageous that this failure is being rewarded with raises in the tens of thousands of dollars.

This is also another example of why we've got to put more money back into the classroom and boost education funding for our students and teachers. Why in the world should a school district bureaucrat outside of the classroom make over $180,000 while our teachers are making far less? It's not right, and when I'm Governor, we're going to fix it, keep our schools safe, and make our education system better for every student, parent and teacher.

Andrew Gillum should join me in calling on these administrators to resend their self-appointed raises. If he really cares about raising teacher pay, he should denounce these administrators' raises and support teachers who work in the classroom every day to educate our children."
