Lamont Marks Anniversary of Las Vegas Shooting, Pledges Commitment to Addressing Gun Violence

Ned Lamont, Democratic nominee for governor, released the following statement on the one year anniversary of the Las Vegas shooting and on the bump stocks ban, which takes effect today in Connecticut.

"We have seen too many families lose their fathers and mothers, sons and daughters, and brothers and sisters to senseless gun violence. After the deadliest shooting in our country's modern history, Connecticut's leaders -- state Reps. William Tong and Steve Stafstrom -- stood up to lead the nation again in the fight against violence and update our laws to reflect this new technology and reality. But our work is not done. We need to build on this progress and pass legislation that further protects our families and communities. If elected, Susan and I would be a firewall against the Trump administration's recent court settlement that allows for blueprints for untraceable and undetectable 3D-printed guns to be publicly sold online to manufacture guns without serial numbers for owners without background checks.

"In the wake of the tragedy at Sandy Hook, Connecticut has been at the forefront of addressing gun violence by passing some of the nation's toughest gun laws. Lawmakers passed legislation that banned the sale of high-capacity gun magazines and required background checks for private gun sales. While these measures are not enough to end the national epidemic of gun violence, they are steps that will help prevent another person from falling victim to this growing culture of violence."
