Ned Lamont Statement on Dr. Christine Blasey Ford's Testimony

Statement

Ned Lamont, Democratic nominee for governor, released the following statement on Dr. Christine Blasey Ford's testimony before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee.

"Today, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford showed incredible courage. In front of the Senate Judiciary Committee and the entire country, Dr. Ford shared her traumatic experience of sexual assault. Her willingness to testify was an enormous public service, and the ramifications she's endured -- from death threats to identity theft -- are exactly why survivors are hesitant to report sexual assaults. I stand with Dr. Ford and the 1 in 5 people in Connecticut who have survived sexual assault. I support their right to be heard, listened to and respected.

"Democratic Governors and Republican Governors across the country have called to postpone the vote in the Senate and to let these brave women be heard. As the Governor of Massachusetts Charlie Baker said, 'The accusations brought against Judge Kavanaugh are sickening and deserve an independent investigation.' I could not agree more. Last night, Bob Stefanowski refused to answer where he stood on Kavanaugh's appointment to the Supreme Court, stating he was going to "take a pass.' His silence is deafening. The voters of Connecticut deserve to know where candidates for governor -- who are running to appoint Connecticut's cabinet officials and Supreme Court Justices -- stand on Brett Kavanaugh. Leaders at every level of government have a responsibility to be catalysts for change and to lift up the voices of those who have lived in fear and silence. Connecticut needs a governor who will not be silent -- one who will be vocal, one who will speak out against sexual violence and one who will be a voice for those who have not been heard."
