Simpson Supports ESA Reform

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Mike Simpson today voted to reform the Endangered Species Act by supporting passage of H.R. 3824, the Threatened and Endangered Species Recovery Act of 2005.

"Property rights and land use are of paramount importance, and the role of the Endangered Species Act in our lives has grown dramatically since its passage in 1973," said Simpson. "The original intent of the Endangered Species Act was noble, yet we have seen limited examples of species recovery. In the last 32 years, the ESA has instilled fear and apprehension towards recovery efforts rather than trust and cooperation. Fear about the use and value of private land. Fear over litigation and boutique lawsuits. It is time to remove the fear."
