Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart Votes to Protect Pledge of Allegiance, Patriotism, American Traditions

WASHINGTON—Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.) today joined his House colleagues in overwhelmingly passing H.Con.Res. 245, which expresses the sense of Congress that the United States Supreme Court should speedily find the use of the Pledge of Allegiance in schools to be consistent with the Constitution of the United States. The measure was agreed to after the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals found it unconstitutional to include recite the Pledge in public school.

"The Pledge of Allegiance is a basic statement of our nation's shared values," Diaz-Balart said. "To rule against allowing children to recite the Pledge in school is an egregious attack on our nation's traditions and practices by judicial activism. I hope that the Supreme Court will reverse the latest unfounded and anti-patriotic ruling from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and restore the will of the American public."
