Hoyer Statement on the Disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi

House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the disappearance of Saudi journalist and dissident, Jamal Khashoggi:

"The disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist and dissident, is deeply alarming. If reports are true that he was assassinated in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul, it represents an astonishing escalation in Saudi efforts to silence its critics. I strongly urge President Trump to push Saudi officials for answers regarding Mr. Khashoggi's disappearance. Violence against the press cannot be accepted anywhere in the world, and we must hold Saudi Arabia accountable if they murdered Mr. Khashoggi."
