Statement

Date: Sept. 25, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) released the following statement in recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month.

"I am proud to honor the rich history and heritage of the Latino community during National Hispanic Heritage month," said Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13). "From our contributions in the fields of arts and entertainment, medical science and technology, business and education, government and serving in our nation's Armed Forces, Latinos have a significant role in helping to shape this nation and its future.

"While we have made significant progress in our efforts to achieve the American dream, more importantly than ever, we must vow to continue our fight to combat this current era of hate and the anti-immigrant agenda that is being put forth by the Trump administration.

"As we reflect on the significance of National Hispanic Heritage Month, we stand united in our efforts to keep families together, protect DREAMers, and ensure programs like the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) remain viable options for individuals and families who need them the most. We stand firm in our commitment to repair our nation's broken immigration system, and we stand together to ensure America remains a beacon of hope, freedom and opportunity for all."
