Press Release: Sherrill Opposes Webber-Backed Tax Hike on Nj Families

On Friday the U.S. House of Representatives voted to permanently cap the state and local tax deduction at $10,000. This provision of the tax bill places yet more strain on our families, as the average state and local tax (SALT) deduction across the four counties that make up NJ-11 was $19,000 in 2016.

Every Representative from North Jersey, both Democrat and Republican, voted against the bill. In spite of that fact, Assemblyman Jay Webber continues to support this additional tax hike on New Jersey families.

"Once again, the House has voted to make it harder for families to afford living in New Jersey by making the cap on the SALT deduction permanent," said Mikie Sherrill. "Assemblyman Jay Webber supports this tax hike, unlike every Representative from North Jersey. I want to see tax reform that lowers taxes for all middle-class families, not a partisan bill that targets the residents of our community."
