Issue Position: Creating Urban Renewal Programs for Affordable Housing and Ending the Homelessness Crisis

Susan Rubio has fought and won against outside developers who wanted to destroy hundreds of homes and businesses, and push out middle-class families. California killed redevelopment agencies years ago because of abuses, but never replaced them with a better system that would encourage more affordable housing.

Susan will bring a new, improved program back that will help families and their children stay in their communities. She will also work with local agencies and nonprofits to get the homeless population into housing and make your streets safer.

"The state keeps talking about helping our housing crisis, then does nothing," Rubio said. "That's because they don't know what it's like for families in the San Gabriel Valley. I meet with residents all the time who want to stay and grow in our community but can't afford it. Some are pushed out of their homes and thrown out into the streets. I'm making this a priority as soon as I become Senator.
