Susan Rubio has spent nearly two decades teaching students in public schools and making sure they get the resources they need. But California keeps shortchanging the students while burdening teachers in the classrooms. We need to reduce class sizes, provide schools with counselors and provide vital support for teachers.
Susan will make sure that classrooms and teachers have everything they need to help their students achieve their academic and life goals. She will support the local districts, teachers and parents against state government meddling and encourage the state to bridge the digital divide in our communities and in our classrooms in order to prepare our children for the new economy and succeed with the new Common Core standard requirements.
Due to the high cost of college tuition, many hard working San Gabriel Valley residents are being forced to forgo higher education -- for Susan, that's unacceptable. She will deliver on the promise of free community college, oppose any proposed budget cuts to financial aid and any attempt to increase student fees at our UC/CSU colleges.
"As someone who worked hard to put myself through college, this is a personal issue for me," Rubio said. "We must provide everyone with an opportunity to attend college in order to ensure that hard working San Gabriel Valley residents find good paying jobs. I firmly believe that the education I received was integral to my success as a public school teacher, a bookkeeper and an elected leader."
