The Central Valley has some of the worst air quality in the State -- over half-a-million Valley residents have asthma, and a 2016 report from the American Lung Association found that the Valley has the highest asthma rate for children in the nation. Many Valley residents also lack access to safe, clean drinking water. Melissa believes everyone deserves access to clean air and clean water. In the State Senate, Melissa will work to improve the Valley's air and water quality by fighting for greater investment to combat this abysmal record, improving public health and quality of life for the Valley's families and children. Understanding that agriculture is the backbone of the local economy, Melissa will advocate to protect and expand existing water supplies for our Valley farms.
