Issue Position: SUPPORTING SCHOOLS AND ADDRESSING GRADUATION RATES

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2018
Issues: Education

One in four kids don't graduate. These shocking numbers outpace the rest of the country. Dropout rates aren't just statistics, they are fortunetellers, warning us of the troubled road ahead for far too many of our young adults and their families who are not prepared with the tools they need to succeed.

And if you have ever been in a 1st grade class with more than 30 exuberant six year olds, you know that class size matters. Class-sizes have ballooned in districts across the state as schools are forced to direct state funds into costs for public pensions, rather than classrooms. We have our eye on contracts, not kids. It isn't good enough and we have to do better.
