Congressman Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) released the following statement today on the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks:
"Today, we come together to mourn the thousands of innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001. Seventeen years ago, our nation experienced one of our darkest days. Yet, in the wake of tragedy, we also experienced a powerful reminder of our country's strength when we stand united.
"We remember all the men and women who lost their lives, were injured, or became sick as a result of the attacks. We honor the brave first responders and all people who leaped into action, risking their lives in their selfless efforts to save others.
"We also pause today to thank all those who answered the call to serve our nation in the wake of this tragedy, who are currently serving in harm's way, and who have made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of our country."
