Hoyer Statement on President Trump's Decision to Declassify Selected Sensitive Materials Related to the Russia Probe

Statement

Date: Sept. 17, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on President Trump's decision to declassify selected sensitive materials related to the Russia probe:

"By selectively declassifying documents relating to the investigation into his campaign's possible collusion with Russia, the President is once again showing he has no regard for the rule of law and is putting his own interests ahead of the country's. This is another desperate attempt by the President to influence an ongoing criminal investigation that continues to draw closer and closer to the President himself -- and it is an irresponsible and dangerous effort to promote conspiracy theories to distract from the truth. The special counsel's investigation must proceed free from political interference - by the President or anyone else."
