Illinois Federation of Teachers Endorses Democrat Lauren Underwood in Il-14 Congressional Race

As teachers and students head back to school, the Illinois Federation of
Teachers (IFT) announced their support for Lauren Underwood, a registered nurse and health
policy expert running for Congress in Illinois' 14th District. Underwood, a product of the 14th
District's public schools, is running against incumbent Republican Rep. Randy Hultgren in one
of the most closely watched congressional races in the country. In Congress, Underwood will
support measures to ensure high-quality, affordable healthcare for northern Illinois families,
safeguard the community's vibrant public school system and stimulate the local economy.
"Lauren Underwood shares our values and is committed to ensuring that every child gets a
great education, from Pre-K through college," said Dan Montgomery, president of the Illinois
Federation of Teachers. "As a nurse, she has spent her life caring for those who need her.
That's what our members do every day across this state in classrooms, cafeterias, school
buses, state offices, and more. The IFT is proud to support Lauren Underwood in her bid for
Congress."
"I grew up in Naperville and sincerely believe the lessons I learned at Neuqua Valley High
School laid the foundation for my congressional campaign," Underwood said. "I believe that
every child in our community should have access to an excellent public education, just as I did.
Further, at a time of soaring college costs, I believe we should be making it easier for students
to afford college through increased funding for Pell Grants, affordable, subsidized student loans
and the continuance of the public service loan forgiveness program."
