Cisneros Statement on Congressional Leadership Fund's Illegal Distribution of National Security Document

Statement

Date: Aug. 28, 2018
Location: Fullerton, CA

Today, Gil Cisneros, Fmr. Lieutenant Commander who is running for Congress in California's 39th Congressional District, condemned Speaker Paul Ryan's Super PAC, the Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF), for improperly obtaining and then distributing a National Security Questionnaire for a former CIA officer. The document could not have been obtained legally, and national security experts have said that the unauthorized release of a highly confidential document for political purposes is particularly troubling.
"As a veteran and former officer in the United States Navy, I find it incredibly disturbing that Speaker Paul Ryan's Super PAC would put our national security at risk, simply to make a political attack against a candidate," said Cisneros. "Once again, this is the CLF demonstrating politics at its worst, and I strongly condemn their actions to improperly obtain and distribute a highly confidential document for political purposes. The CLF has repeatedly demonstrated a lack of integrity, deceitfulness, and put party over country, and I'm calling on both Speaker Ryan and my opponent to denounce the CLF and its actions."
