Peter Roskam Should Put Country Over Party

Statement

Date: Aug. 29, 2018
Location: Downers Grove, IL
Issues: Elections

Following reports that the Speaker Paul Ryan affiliated super PAC Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF) was using improperly obtained federal security clearance documents for political purposes, Sean Casten released the following statement:

"Peter Roskam needs to speak out against the Congressional Leadership Fund loudly and clearly," said Casten. "As someone who has faced mudslinging and false allegations from CLF, I know what lengths this organization will stoop to. But for this organization to share private information illicitly obtained about a fellow candidate who protected our country from terrorism is beyond the pale. Peter Roskam needs to make it clear that patriotism comes before politics, and disavow the CLF."

The New York Times reported a super PAC aligned with Speaker Paul Ryan was shopping the federal security clearance application of Democratic candidate Abigail Spanberger (VA-07) to reporters and potentially other Republican-aligned groups.
