Press Release

Date: Sept. 5, 2018
Location: Washington, DC

Today U.S. Senator Deb Fischer, a member of the Senate Commerce Committee, was awarded the 2018 Hero of Main Street Award from the National Retail Federation (NRF). This award is presented to legislators who show consistent support for the country's retail business community.

"I'm honored to be recognized as a supporter of our main street businesses. Working with Nebraskans, we've been effective in enacting tax cuts and other common-sense solutions to spur economic growth. I will continue to fight for policies that promote prosperity in our communities," said Senator Fischer.

Background from the National Retail Federation:

NRF is the world's largest retail trade association, representing discount and department stores, home goods and specialty stores, Main Street merchants, grocers, wholesalers, chain restaurants, and Internet retailers from the United States and more than 45 countries. Retail is the nation's largest private sector employer, supporting one in four U.S. jobs -- 42 million working Americans. Contributing $2.6 trillion to annual GDP, retail is a daily barometer for the nation's economy.

Award eligibility is based on key votes, bill sponsorship, and co-sponsorship as well as significant legislative actions that demonstrate support for America's retail industry.
