Letter to President Donald Trump - Nebraska Delegation Writes President Supporting State Disaster Declaration Request

Letter

Dear Mr. President:

We write in support of Governor Pete Ricketts's request for a Major Declaration of Disaster for Public Assistance, which followed a period of unstable weather between the months of June and July 2018, for the following ten counties in Nebraska: Cedar, Colfax, Cuming, Dakota, Dixon, Harlan, Logan, Thomas, Thurston, and Wayne. We further support Governor Ricketts's request for Hazard Mitigation statewide.

Treacherous winds, tornadoes, and flash floods caused extensive damage throughout the state from June 17 to July 1, 2018. Reports indicate significant damage to roads, bridges, and culverts; electrical distribution infrastructure and facilities were also severely damaged in the affected areas. County road departments are reporting damages of just under $4,000,000.

Recovering from these events requires significant resources, but the people of Nebraska have once again shown the country their resilience. This is an opportunity for the federal government to join with the state in these restoration efforts.

We stand ready and willing to assist in any way possible to ensure prompt evaluation of this request. Please do not hesitate to contact our offices with any questions.

Sincerely,
