Schakowsky Statement on President Trump's Culture of Corruption

Statement

"In the past two weeks alone, President Trump's first supporter in Congress, Rep. Chris Collins, was indicted on charges of insider trading and his second supporter in Congress, Rep. Duncan Hunter, was indicted for using $250,000 in campaign funds for personal expenses. At the same time his former Campaign Manager, Paul Manafort, was convicted of eight criminal charges linked to financial fraud and his longtime lawyer, Michael Cohen, has pleaded guilty to eight federal charges including campaign finance violations in which he admitted to making payments to silence women during the Presidential campaign at the direction of Donald Trump himself.

"Donald Trump's promise to "drain the swamp' in Washington has never been more painfully ironic. He has chosen to surround himself with criminals and thugs who eat, sleep, and breathe corruption. Republican Leadership's failure to stand up to the President's criminal enterprise means they are all complicit as well. President Trump has no respect for the rule of law, the American people, or the office that they elected him to. He is unfit to lead our country, and it is time for my Republican colleagues to say so."
