Senator John Hoeven today issued the following statement after the United States reinstated sanctions on Iran beginning today, August 7.

"Iran should not possess a nuclear weapon and we need to do more to deter them. Until Iran is willing to verifiably end its nuclear program, we need to have strong sanctions in place. I opposed lifting sanctions on Iran and I support re-imposing them now to deter Iran from continuing to develop nuclear weapons. Sanctions will help to enhance the security of the United States and our other allies in the region."
