JB Pritzker Condemns Rauner for Amendatory Veto on Juliana Stratton's Voting Rights Bill

After Bruce Rauner issued an amendatory veto on a bill that would have made it easier for those awaiting trial to vote in jails -- HB 4469, filed by lieutenant governor nominee and State Representative Juliana Stratton -- JB Pritzker released the following statement:

"Historic voting rights legislation was passed because of the hard work of countless advocates, stakeholders, and bipartisan legislators -- including my running mate Juliana Stratton -- but Bruce Rauner is once again being an obstacle to progress and delaying this crucial bill from becoming law," said JB Pritzker. "I'm deeply disappointed that this failed governor used his veto pen to stall efforts to expand voting rights in jails across our state. Exercising your right to vote is foundational to our democracy, and we must ensure everyone is able to use their voice at the ballot box. Those awaiting trial have a right to vote, and Rauner's AV is a troubling sign that he doesn't believe that to be true. As governor, I would sign this legislation into law and will always fight to ensure all Illinoisans can access their right to vote."
