EPA Issues New Fuel Waiver in Virginia
— Governor Warner continues to push for adequate fuel supplies in wake of Gulf hurricanes —

Governor Mark R. Warner today announced that Virginia has been granted another waiver by the Environmental Protection Agency on the use of non-reformulated gas. The new waiver, similar to one originally granted September 5th and renewed once since then, will extend until October 20th. The waiver allows localities in the Richmond metro area to sell non-reformulated gas, significantly increasing the fuel supply for Virginians at a time when hurricane-related damage has reduced production, refining, and distribution from the Gulf region, from which the majority of Virginia's gasoline comes.

"As our gas supply continues to fluctuate, we are closely watching availability and price," said Governor Warner. "Beyond strictly policing potential price gouging, this EPA waiver continues to be one of the best ways the state can help Virginians during this time. I continue to ask Virginians to practice voluntary and common sense conservation measures. The state workforce remains under an ‘essential travel only policy."
