Johnston Nominated to Replace Judge Haden
9/28/2005
WASHINGTON, DC - (9/28) - Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) released the following statement today commenting on President Bushs nomination of Thomas E. Johnston to be Federal Judge for the Southern District of West Virginia.
"President Bush has selected a solid, intelligent West Virginian to be our next Federal Judge," noted Capito. "Strong minded and fair, Tom Johnston holds the values we feel are necessary for a federal judge to use to interpret the law.
"What impresses me most about Tom Johnston is the track record of accomplishment he has exemplified his entire life. Beginning with his excellent academic performance at West Virginia University where he was named a Harry S. Truman Scholar in 1987 through his work as a lawyer, advocate for the homeless, and promoter of local businesses, Tom Johnston has been a strong leader for West Virginia.
"Judge Haden left some very big shoes to fill. I am confident Tom Johnston is up to the job. Toms experience serving as a U.S. Attorney where he has protected our communities by prosecuting drug dealers and child molesters as well as establishing programs that help law enforcement combat terrorism, will serve him well as a federal judge."
Tom Johnston was born in Charleston, WV and raised in Mason County where he was a graduate of Point Pleasant High School. Tom and his wife Lisa Grimes Johnston have two children Joanna Elizabeth and Jack Garrett.
