Delaying Drug Benefit Hard Pill to Swallow
9/20/2005

WASHINGTON, DC (9/20) Calling proposals to delay the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit an irresponsible way to reduce spending, Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) released the following statement today:

"It makes no sense to delay a program that will help save seniors and taxpayers money," noted Capito. "The new Medicare Drug Benefit will help seniors pay for preventive medications that help a senior live a healthy life while avoiding expensive hospitalization and surgery. Pulling the rug out from under seniors who need prescription drug coverage is not the responsible way to reduce spending. Congress has priorities, helping rebuild the Gulf Coast is on the top of that list, but not at the expense of seniors."

"One way to pay for rebuilding efforts is to ensure the American economy stays strong. Reducing taxes helps economic growth. The money to fund rebuilding can be found through a strong economy and responsibly reducing spending."
