Rosen hosts Women's Roundtable on Efforts to Protect Health Care Access and Reproductive Rights

Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) hosted a women's health care roundtable on issues women face in accessing health care and ongoing threats in Washington to women's reproductive rights.

"I appreciated the opportunity to hear directly from women in Southern Nevada about their concerns around health care access and reproductive freedom," said Rosen. "In Congress, I'm working to protect Planned Parenthood from political attacks, restore rules requiring employers to provide contraception coverage, and reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act. I'm committed to empowering women everywhere to be able to make their own medical decisions and access the care and services they need to live healthy, productive lives."

BACKGROUND: Congresswoman Rosen is co-sponsoring numerous legislative efforts to protect and expand reproductive health rights and access to birth control:

The EACH Woman Act (H.R. 771), which would repeal the Hyde Amendment, lifting the ban on insurance coverage for abortion services for women in Medicare, Medicaid, and the Indian Health Service, and for female federal employees and low-income women in DC.

The Women's Health Protection Act (H.R. 1322), a bill to prohibit states from imposing arbitrary restrictions on women's access to abortion providers.

The Global HER Act (H.R. 671), which reverses the Trump Administration's global gag rule barring international organizations that receive U.S. financial aid from talking about abortions to patients by physicians.

The Protect Access to Birth Control Act (H.R. 4082), which would repeal the Trump Administration's rule allowing virtually any employer or insurance company to deny contraception coverage based on general religious exceptions.

The Preventing Maternal Deaths Act (H.R. 1318), which directs HHS to partner with States to design a strategy to combat maternal mortality, including creating recommendations to improve practices for expectant mothers struggling with substance abuse mental health disorders.

The Access to Contraception for Women Servicemembers and Dependents Act (H.R. 2180), which would ensure that all servicemembers and their dependents who rely on the military for health care have access to birth control coverage.

Rosen is a member of the Congressional Task Force to End Domestic Violence and is a supporter of a number of bills aimed at protecting women from domestic violence and sexual assault. Rosen helped introduce the bill to codify Title IX protections for sexual assault survivors and the bill to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act. Rosen also successfully passed an amendment in the Fiscal Year 2019 National Defense Authorization Act to make domestic violence a crime under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ).
