Congressman Kevin Cramer released the following statement on the 2019 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) passing both the House and Senate:
"The new defense authorization law will give our troops the biggest pay raise in nine years and provide North Dakota funding for readiness and mission improvement. I am pleased airmen in Grand Forks and Minot will see benefits from the NDAA, such as replacing Huey helicopters and modernizing RQ-4 drones. The legislation also includes $717 billion for the national defense budget and $21.9 billion for nuclear weapons programs under the Department of Energy.
"The Trump Administration demonstrates a strong backing of our military, which was underfunded and under supported during the previous Administration years. The brave men and women serving this country deserve a strong defense bill and the benefits they rightfully earned. Our military is now stronger than ever, thanks to this Administration's commitment to rebuild and increase our defense investments.
"I am pleased my amendment was included to award Staff Sergeant Justin Gallegos the Distinguished Service Cross for his honorable service. He was truly a hero and will be remembered for his sacrifice in Afghanistan."
