Issue Position: Strengthening Job Creation & The Economy

Issue Position

As a small business owner, I understand what American job creators need: less interference and lower taxes. That is why my number one priority in Congress is to promote an atmosphere for job creation, economic growth, and higher wages for families across West Michigan.

An outdated tax code and unnecessary regulatory burdens persuade companies to send American jobs across the border. That is why I was a proud supporter of The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Key changes in The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act involve lower rates, a doubled standard deduction, an increased Child Tax Credit, a new Family Tax Credit, and the continuation of the Adoption Tax Credit. As we are beginning to see, this is benefitting hardworking West Michigan taxpayers.

Our nation's tax code hasn't been overhauled in three decades. In that time, economic growth has failed to reach its potential while special interests and the well-connected have created loopholes for themselves at the expense of low and moderate income families. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Actis reversing this trend by simplifying our tax code, eliminating loopholes, and delivering tax relief for hardworking middle class families and small businesses.

Regulatory burdens from Washington fall heaviest on small businesses. Businesses with fewer than 20 employees spend more than $2,000 per employee than big businesses to comply with federal mandates. I have no problem with commonsense regulation but will use every available tool to combat bureaucratic overreach and eliminate unnecessary regulations that slow economic growth and threaten West Michigan jobs.
