Jenniffer González announces mission of federal government to collaborate with Forensic Sciences
Yabucoa, Puerto Rico- Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González Colón announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), at the request of Governor Ricardo Rosselló, authorized $ 2 million for the federal Department of Health Arrive in Puerto Rico on Monday, with forensic pathologists who can perform a serious and comprehensive assessment of the needs of the Forensic Sciences Institute.

The commissioner made the announcement today, during the inspections she conducted with a group of 15 congressmen headed by the Democratic Leader in the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi.

González Colón highlighted the importance of these visits by members of Congress so they can be witnesses of the needs and take the direct input of residents on the island. As a result of the visit, the commissioner informed that they worked together with FEMA so that the more than 28,000 requests denied by the agency can be reviewed.

"If your application was denied, go to the FEMA help centers or call our office so we can help you with the review of your application. There are no excuses because you do not have a property title so that you do not receive help from FEMA, "the commissioner exhorted, thanking all the congressmen for their interest in the prompt recovery of Puerto Rico.

Another issue discussed was the need to speed up the process of reimbursing funds to municipalities and the government for expenses incurred as a result of hurricanes Irma and María.

The delegation also includes González Colón and Pelosi Adriano Espaillat (D-NY), Nydia Velázquez (D-NY), Shelia Jackson-Lee (D-TX), Jim McGovern (D-MA), Greg Meeks (D-NY) ), Betty McCollum (D-MN), Terri Sewell (D-AL), Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-NM), Robin Kelly (D-IL), Stacey Plaskett (D-VI), Dwight Evans (D-PA) , Nanette Barragan (D-CA), Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), and Val Demings (D-FL).

The congressmen began the day with two meetings that included representatives of non-profit organizations and workers. Then they went to the FEMA Joint Recovery Office where the congressmen talked with personnel from their districts who are stationed in Puerto Rico for the recovery work and held a meeting with direct reports on the progress in each of the recovery stages.

They visited the Municipality of Adjuntas where they were received by the mayors Jaime Barlucea and the district representative Abid Quiñones. There they went to the FEMA Recovery Center where the delegation could witness the work done by federal agencies to help the population with recovery. At Casa Pueblo, they talked with community leaders who told them about their challenges and concerns in the middle of the hurricane season.

In Yabucoa, they were received by Deputy Mayor Wanda Castro, who accompanied the congressmen to receive a report from the Red Cross, about the work they did to help the residents of the island. They reported that volunteers came from other chapters besides the United States, Mexico, Finland, Spain, among others; distributed generators for patients including nearly 600 veterans; Funeral services were paid; they educated and offered help in topics related to physical and mental health, among others.

After attending the media, they went to Humacao to the modular energy system project that can be moved and assembled anywhere in less than 24 hours.

The delegation arrived last night in Puerto Rico and was received at the Fortaleza by the governed Ricardo Rosselló with whom he discussed with González Colón, Pelosi and Velazquez several aspects of the visit and with the rest of the delegation and members of his Cabinet the recovery progress of Puerto Rico.
