Proclamation - University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences Day

WHEREAS, the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences is celebrating
the 100th anniversary of its founding and the first day that medical classes were taught at the
university; and

WHEREAS, in 1905, the North Dakota Legislature recognized a need for a medical school to
provide North Dakotans with the opportunity to become doctors and remain in the state to
establish their practices and provide medical care to North Dakota's citizens; and

WHEREAS, since its founding, the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health
Sciences has developed into a modern institution and has become a national model for communitybased
medical education; and

WHEREAS, the dedicated professors and staff at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences have
consistently produced bright, talented doctors who rank extremely well in comparison with other
medical school graduates from across the country; and

WHEREAS, the school's success throughout the past century has been largely due to the hard
work and contributions of its family of educators, including renowned scientists and researchers,
clinical experts in all major disciplines, and a large number of North Dakota physicians who
volunteer their time to provide residency training; and

NOW, THEREFORE, as Governor of the State of North Dakota, I do hereby proclaim
