Proclamation - Day of Prayer and Remembrance Victims of Hurricane Katrina

WHEREAS, Hurricane Katrina was one of the worst natural disasters in our nation's
history and has caused tremendous devastation and heartbreak throughout the Gulf Coast
Region; and

WHEREAS, many lives have been lost, and hundreds of thousands of our fellow
Americans are suffering great hardship; and

WHEREAS, on this special day, we remember the lives that have been lost and pray for
those who continue to be displaced from their homes, communities and loved ones; and

WHEREAS, North Dakotans are reaching out to those who suffer by opening their hearts,
homes and communities, demonstrating their unwavering support for those who have been
impacted by Hurricane Katrina; and

WHEREAS, North Dakota's citizens are encouraged to pray for those who have
experienced such loss, and continue to provide assistance to the relief efforts through
donations of time, money or needed goods; and

NOW, THEREFORE, as Governor of the State of North Dakota, I do hereby proclaim

September 16, 2005, a DAY OF PRAYER AND REMEMBRANCE FOR THE
VICTIMS OF HURRICANE KATRINA in the state of North Dakota.
