Day after day, our veterans risked their lives for the rest of us -- so that every other American could live freely and fully, with a sense of safety and stability. When these brave women and men take off their uniform and return to civilian life, they need to know they will be given the care and economic opportunity they deserve.

Our state holds one of the highest percentages of veterans per capita in the nation, and from day one, Senator King has been committed to getting these veterans the health care, housing, employment and education they need and have earned.

Senator King cosponsored the Veterans Entrepreneurship Act, which was signed into law in 2015 and helps veterans secure the loans necessary to launch their own small businesses.
In collaboration with Senator Susan Collins and the entire Maine delegation, Senator King helped protect rural veterans who participated in the popular Access Received Closer to Home (ARCH) program, ensuring they could continue receiving health care close to their homes.
He has advocated for expanding options for our veterans' medical care, fighting to build a new VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinic in Portland to better care for our state's veterans. The VA Choice and Quality Employment Act, which Senator King cosponsored, passed in August 2017 -- and now Portland is one step closer to being able to better help our veterans in need.
This past year, Senator King worked to broaden and deepen health care options for rural veterans, cosponsoring an amendment that will make it easier for these brave men and women to access mental health services.
He also worked to simplify student loan forgiveness for our disabled veterans, leading a bipartisan effort that will help these veterans achieve the financial benefits they have earned.
