Hoyer Statement on President Trump's Comments During His Visit to London

House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today regarding President Trump's comments during his trip to London:

"President Trump's blatant interference in the democratic politics of our ally the United Kingdom is appalling. His statements -- designed to weaken Britain's current government -- undermine the trust between our nations. Interfering in the democratic processes of another sovereign nation is never appropriate, a principle this President continues to malign even after being presented with overwhelming evidence that Russia interfered with our own and, possibly, with the United Kingdom's Brexit referendum in 2016.

"I urge the President to exercise more discretion when dealing with foreign leaders, particularly our closest allies, so as not to create unnecessary wedges that Russia and other adversaries can exploit to weaken our nation and our partners."
