U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) issued the following statement commemorating the victims of the Tugboat "13 de marzo" massacre:

"On this day, 24 years ago, the Castro brothers committed one of the most heinous crimes that resulted in the death of 41 Cubans, including children, desperately fleeing the Cuban dictatorship in search of a better life. Their senseless death will never be forgotten. I join the families of the victims and the Cuban-American exile community as we mourn their loss."

In May 22, 2018 Senator Rubio and Congressman Diaz-Balart urged for the Department of Justice to consider indicting Raúl Castro for the murder of American citizens.
