Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) released the following statement commemorating Immigrant Heritage Month in June:
"As the granddaughter of immigrants, I'm proud to celebrate the many ways immigrants contribute to our culture and heritage each day in Nevada. For generations, immigrants have left loved ones behind and come to Nevada in search of a better life, growing our economy and helping our communities thrive. Our diversity and our shared immigrant story is at the heart of what makes our state and our country great, and we must continue to uphold our values and stand up for the rights of immigrant families. I'll keep fighting to protect our Dreamers and TPS recipients, push back against this Administration's anti-immigrant agenda, and urge my colleagues to work together to finally pass bipartisan, comprehensive immigration reform."
BACKGROUND: In addition to signing H.Res. 774, a bipartisan discharge petition that would force floor debate and votes in the House on a DACA fix, Rosen is a co-sponsor of the Dream Act and is an original co-sponsor of the United and Securing America (USA) Act. The USA Act is a bipartisan bill that would provide a legal pathway to citizenship for DREAMers and help secure our southern border. Earlier this year, Rosen co-sponsored H.R. 4253, the American Promise Act, which would protect TPS recipients from deportation and allow law-abiding TPS holders a pathway to permanent residency and citizenship.
Rosen is also an Associate Member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus. An estimated 11 percent of Clark County residents belong to the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities.
