U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) today issued the following statement regarding the intention of Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, a Reagan appointee, to retire in July from the Supreme Court of the United States:

"Justice Kennedy has been a mainstay on the Supreme Court for three decades, which has given him a pivotal role in influencing the lives of all Americans. I thank him for his service and wish him well.

"I look forward to a vote before the end of the year on a new conservative justice to defend the Constitution."
