Rosen Calls on Heller to Sign on to the Keep Families Together Act, Urge Trump Directly to End Family Separation Policy

In response to growing outrage this week over the Trump Administration's policy of separating undocumented immigrant children from their parents at the border, Sen. Dean Heller is trying to disapprove of the policy while refusing to call on President Trump directly to end it, blaming Congress for the issue, and declining to sign on to the existing Senate bill that would stop family separations.

President Trump is headed to Las Vegas on Saturday for a $50,000-per-couple fundraiser that will support Heller's re-election campaign. Hundreds of Nevadans rallied in Reno today to oppose President Trump's family separation policy and urge Sen. Heller to support the Keep Families Together Act.

Nevada Congresswoman and candidate for U.S. Senate Jacky Rosen released the following statement:

"President Trump is shirking responsibility for a cruel policy that amounts to child abuse and that his administration could reverse immediately. If Senator Heller cares about doing what's right, he should take real action by joining me in signing on to the Keep Families Together Act and personally urging President Trump to end this heartless family separation policy at their joint fundraiser in Las Vegas this weekend. If you welcome President Trump to Nevada to help your re-election efforts and don't have the backbone to stand up to him directly as young kids are being ripped away from their parents, then you don't have the backbone to be Nevada's U.S. Senator."
