Susie Lee Reiterates Opposition to Yucca Mountain, Calls on Danny Tarkanian to Stand Up for Nevadans and Stand Against Nuclear Waste Dump

Local education advocate and nonprofit leader Susie Lee today reiterated her opposition to the proposed nuclear waste dump at Yucca Mountain. Nevada produces no nuclear waste, yet Congress is voting today to store the rest of the nation's dangerous nuclear waste a mere 90 miles outside of Las Vegas. Lee called on Danny Tarkanian to join Nevadans of both parties in opposing this costly, dangerous, and ill-advised facility.

"I am staunchly opposed to dumping the nation's nuclear waste in our backyard," said Lee. "It's a matter of when, not if, there will be a devastating accident that will threaten the economic engine of our state, our tourism industry, not to mention put lives at risk.

"Every Nevadan, no matter their political leaning, should agree that this is a dangerous proposal. Unfortunately, Danny Tarkanian has decided to take his marching orders from Washington insiders instead of listening to Nevada families, and supports dumping the nation's nuclear waste at our doorstep. I strongly urge him to reconsider."
