JB Pritzker Calls on Bruce Rauner to Stand Against Trump Administration's Family Separation Policy

Statement

Date: June 18, 2018
Location: Chicago, IL
Issues: Immigration

Today, JB Pritzker issued the following statement calling on Bruce Rauner to stand with Illinois' families in opposition to the Trump administration's policy of separating refugee children from their parents:

"There are children being kept in cages and families being torn apart, and it is happening right here on our soil in our name," said JB Pritzker. "Donald Trump's policy of separating parents and children coming to our borders to seek refuge from war, violence, and injustice is cruel, and it is not who we are as Americans. It is attacks on immigrant families and people like my great-grandfather who fled from a country in turmoil seeking a better life and is reminiscent of the separation of families that occurred under Nazi rule that is memorialized at the Illinois Holocaust Museum."

"This is heartbreaking and cruel and cannot stand. Bruce Rauner, I am calling on you as governor to stand united with bipartisan leaders in Illinois to fight against this heinous policy. The world is watching, and we must stand together as Americans and as Illinoisans to protect all families from this type of bigotry, hatred, and intolerance."
