I believe that we must hold those in Washington accountable. Having held previous positions in state and local government, it frustrates me when Congress refuses to perform its basic and responsibilities outlined in the Constitution. For years, I have been a consistent in calling on Congress to pass a budget on time and to pass all twelve funding bills through regular order. The culture of budgeting-by-crisis and business as usual in Washington must stop. Failing to pass a budget is extremely detrimental to our military, federal agencies, and contractors. When members of Congress don't do their jobs, they must suffer the consequences, which is why I've introduced the No Budget No Pay Act, which requires withholds member's pay if a budget is not passed. I also introduced the Stay on Schedule Resolution which says that the House has not passed all twelve appropriations bills by the end of July, they are not allowed to go home for what they call "August Recess."
I fully support efforts to give more power to state governments. We must allow our state legislators the flexibility to distribute the federal dollars they receive for programs like Medicaid, school testing, and workforce development. This gives them the ability to fit their state's needs. I also support adding sunset provisions to all future regulations to restore Congress' role in oversight. I believe we must ensure that these regulations are achieving the proper balance of protecting Americans while not stifling economic growth or innovation.
I believe that the constitutional right to keep and bear arms must be diligently protected. I am a gun owner and strong supporter of Second Amendment rights. I was the Chairman of the Congressional Sportsman's Caucus in 2016, the largest bipartisan caucus in Congress. We worked tirelessly to protect the rights of anglers and sportsmen and women.
