Rosen Statement on President's Decision to Withdraw From Iran Deal

Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) released the following statement in response to President Trump's decision to withdraw from the Iran deal.

"As a Member of the House Armed Services Committee, I've heard from military and intelligence experts about the dangers of withdrawing from the JCPOA without evidence of a material breach," said Rosen. "After the JCPOA was agreed to, it should have been robustly enforced - not used as a political football. We need to hold Iran accountable in every way we can, and we cannot allow Iran to restart its nuclear program. Unfortunately, backing out of this agreement means undermining our international alliances, jeopardizing our national security, and re-opening Iran's path to developing a nuclear weapon."

BACKGROUND: Earlier this year, Rep. Rosen voted for H.R. 4324, the Strengthening Oversight of Iran's Access to Finance Act to require the Treasury to certify that sales of commercial airlines to Iran don't facilitate terrorism or money laundering. This legislation, which passed the House 252-167, would help to ensure that American-manufactured aircraft are not used by Iran for illicit purposes. Rep. Rosen also voted for H.R. 1638, the Iranian Leadership Asset Transparency Act. This legislation, which passed the House 289-135, requires the Treasury to report to Congress on the assets held by Iran's senior political, religious, and military leaders, thus ensuring that sanctions relief is helping the Iranian people, not merely enriching its leaders.

Rosen recently co-sponsored H.R. 5132, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Economic Exclusion Act. This bipartisan bill aims to hold the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) accountable for their actions, including affiliates and front companies that have supported terrorism, the Assad regime, or other destabilizing activities on behalf of the IRGC.
