Issue Position: Strengthening Our Economy and Lowering Your Taxes

Issue Position

For years, small business owners throughout the 4th Congressional District have told me that we needed to reduce federal regulations and reform the tax code to unleash the power of our private sector economy. It looks like they were right. Little more than a year after President Trump and a Republican Congress were sworn in, the economy is picking up steam, jobs are being created and wages are finally rising.

A big step in the right direction was the passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Under the Republican plan that was signed into law by President Trump, every tax bracket will see a tax cut. The plan doubles the standard deduction, expands tax benefits for families and gets rid of special interest loopholes. About 90% of Americans could be able to file their taxes on a form about the size of a postcard. The law also cuts taxes on American businesses large and small so they can create jobs in our communities.

Another barrier to a strong economy is over-regulation. Since I was elected to Congress, I fought to block excessive government regulations that make it harder for small businesses to grow and plan for the future. Government regulations cost the average American family more than $15,000 each year. Thankfully, President Trump has made this a priority of his administration and the positive impact these changes have had on the economy are growing every day.

But more needs to be done. America must develop and all-of-the-above energy strategy that includes development of new, clean energy technologies while ensuring that America fully utilizing our domestic energy resources. This strategy will create jobs, make energy more affordable for families and help the environment.

We also need to reduce federal spending. I supported countless bills to cut federal spending and balance our budget.

Finally, we need to support our Nation's infrastructure. I've supported devils to strengthen our roads, bridges, airports, see ports, and other infrastructure projects. This is a critical steps to growing our economy and creating jobs.

A strong and vibrant economy impacts every single one of us. I'll continue to work hard to make sure you keep more of your hard earned tax dollars and to support policies that help local businesses and workers get the chance to grow and succeed.
