Today Rep. Nanette Barragán sent letters to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) requesting federal support to determine the safety of residents' drinking water. Many residents of Compton and Willowbrook report dark and rust-colored water coming out of their taps and are increasingly concerned for their health.

Rep. Barragán asked the agencies to test and certify the safety of the water in the Sativa Water District.

"One day living with brown water is one day too many," stated Rep. Barragán. "Our families deserve to know that the water they drink won't hurt them or their children. Clean water is a basic human right. For too long the residents of Compton have had doubts about their water quality. This situation is unacceptable."

Rep. Barragán will hold a Town Hall on May 2, in Compton, to address this issue and provide the latest information to residents.
