House To Vote On Bipartisan Music Modernization Act

Support for the Music Modernization Act, H.R. 5447, continues to deepen in the days since the House Judiciary Committee passed the bill with a 32-0 vote earlier this month. The House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on the bipartisan legislation this Wednesday.

"Music is an art that is universally appreciated and consumed throughout the world. But while access to American music increases, today's regulations for the music industry remain outdated and hold back the countless constituencies in the music industry. Thanks to the hard work from Representative Doug Collins, bipartisan reforms are on the House floor this week to help level the playing field and support America's music industry," said House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).

"American music inspires the world, and American copyright protects that artistry. I'm grateful for House leadership's initiative in bringing the Music Modernization Act to the floor this week and for the vision with which Chairman Goodlatte and Ranking Member Nadler moved this legislation through the committee. As we look forward to a vote on this bipartisan solution, I want to thank the songwriters, artists, music providers and other stakeholders who have helped lawmakers on both sides of the aisle craft a bill that brings the benefits of the free market and the digital age to bear on outdated copyright laws," said Rep. H.R. 5447 includes the Music Modernization Act originally introduced by Reps. Doug Collins and Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), the CLASSICS Act, introduced by Reps. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) and Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), and the AMP Act, introduced by Reps. Joseph Crowley (D-N.Y.) and Tom Rooney (R-Fla.).
