Rep. Barragán Legislation to Protect U.S. Transportation Systems Passes the House

Today the Strengthening Local Transportation Security Capabilities Act passed the U.S. House of Representatives. Next, the bill will proceed to the Senate for consideration.

Rep. Barragán's legislation would improve security at our nation's airports, railways, and mass transit systems and reduce emergency response times by assigning more federal law enforcement officers and resources near high-risk surface transportation assets, including Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The bill would also provide new terrorism-focused training, and improve cooperation between federal, State, and local law enforcement partners by establishing a framework for unified operation centers. Together, these measures will help prevent and enhance response efforts to terrorist attacks and other serious incidents.
