Rosen Statement on ICE Arrest of Las Vegas Mother

Press Release

Date: April 6, 2018
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Immigration

Today, Congresswoman Jacky Rosen (NV-03) released the following statement on the forceful detention of Las Vegas mother Cecilia Gómez by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Gómez was detained at the Las Vegas U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) office while attending an appointment to earn legal permanent residency.

"Cecilia Gómez contributed to the Las Vegas community for decades, she built a life here raising three sons, and she was on a path to gaining legal permanent residency," said Rosen. "ICE should focus its time and resources on hardened criminals who threaten the safety of our communities and stop tearing families apart. These twisted priorities are yet another sign of the Trump Administration's reckless, anti-immigrant agenda. Congress needs to pass comprehensive immigration reform immediately to end the fear and suffering of families in Nevada and across the country."
